#OIHO Unemployment

The Ohio.gov site seems to have crashed at exactly the time the numbers came out. Stay tuned…

The number:

Ohio’s unemployment rate was 7.0 percent in September, down from 7.2 percent in August, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS). Ohio’s nonfarm wage and salary employment decreased 12,800 over the month from the revised 5,190,000 in August to 5,177,200 in September.

Sorry, OIHO, but 7K decrease in one month doesn’t equal a 2% rate decrease. #MATH….

He agrees with me. The number only went down because fewer Ohioans are working than in August. In technical terms only economists understand, he says it’s “the infamous ‘dropped from the workforce’ BS stat.”
